As a Social Media Manager, your job doesn’t make optimum mental health particularly easy.

It is so easy to get sucked into a cycle of comparison to others and the stress of doing it “right” all the time.

In today’s world, a company’s social media presence is everything. As a Social Media Manager, you might be feeling overwhelmed and burnt out from trying to keep up with rapidly changing events and trends.

When we need some assistance with our mental health, we think of CATS. And no, not our office interns (even though they do help). CATS is an acronym we use when we need a little help with our mental health on social media.

C: Control Your Social Media Feed

Unfollow any accounts that make you feel less than. It’s one thing to monitor your competitors, but if you follow accounts where their success makes it feel like you are a failure, that is a clear sign it is time to click unfollow. You can also try muting keywords that upset or trigger you. We also encourage you to follow accounts that make you feel happy, inspired and motivated.

A: Ask For Help When You Need It

Asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness. You do not need to struggle alone. Reach out to a friend, colleague or professional, and break the silence.

T: Take a Break From Social Media

If posting is required for your job, log out of personal accounts, schedule posts when you can, or even batch create some content and ask a colleague to take over a few days. If content creation is putting you in a creative rut, we have a content creation package where we create the content for you to post, so you can focus on what matters, your health.

S: Set Limits On Your Screen Time

Create boundaries for yourself when it comes to screen time. Create a technology-free zone in your home or set aside times to unplug throughout the day. You can even create daily screen time settings on your phone for using apps like Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and Twitter after a certain amount of time.
